aly & cath - rogueBIGGIE: Aly Uy
smalls 1: Cath/Myca Pingol Fam: Rogue Name: Aly Uy Major (+Minor): Biochemistry Fam: ROGUE Describe your relationship with your BIGGIE/smalls: Myca and I are besties! I do give her advice for some things, but rather than a mentor/mentee relationship, I feel like we are both trying to help each other to have the best time possible in college and to navigate life stuff. I don’t know about her, but I definitely I thrive off of her amazing energy (“pink aura” lol) too! What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?: It’s never too early to try something out! She’s president of her school’s filipino club, and she’s only a soph?! She’s too cool. But yeah she’s shown everyone that even if there is a lack of precedent for what you’re doing, don’t let it stop you from achieving your goals because you are more than capable. What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?: When we spilled many chismes at Gaga seafood in Chinatown ;) Name: Cath/Myca Pingol Major (+Minor): Marketing and Global Business double major Fam: ROGUE!!! Describe your relationship with your BIGGIE/smalls: Before my reveal, I asked people who my big was, but all the people told me that I had a "match made in heaven". Even though she was a stranger when we met, I knew that the vibes were there. Since we are both women in leadership positions, we understand each other's responsibilities and I know that she is someone I can always go to for advice. Aly is mom for real; she's always willing to take care of me and we joke that when she gets old, it will be my turn to take care of her. I am basically the extroverted version of Aly but she holds many traits that I hope to have as a leader: she's compassionate, graceful, and we can always be seen cackling together in the corner of the room. What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?: Aly has been a huge inspiration for me as I am developing my own club and cultivating my leadership skills. By being so welcoming and inviting to me at Barkada and Rogue events, she has shown me how to give that same warmth and kindness to members of SU Pinoy. And she showed me the right way to drink boba: only 50% sugar! What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?: My favorite memory with Aly is when she came to the first ever SU Pinoy general meeting because she trekked all the way to Suffolk witness the creation of my club. She gave me support when I first began to cultivate SU Pinoy, so to see her still supporting me when my hard work has come to fruition really means a lot to me. After my presentation, she assisted me in facilitating the rest of the meeting and helped everything run smoothly by introducing icebreakers and creating a warm atmosphere, which was essential to create that sense of community. It makes me so happy to be able to show off Aly as my beautiful bigs.

Ray, vito, & francis - AllegianceBIGGIE: Ray Valenzuela
smalls 1: Francis Alvarez smalls 2: Vito Montesa Fam: Allegiance Name: Ray Valenzuela Major (+Minor): Applied Physics (Mathematics + Data Science) Fam: Allegiance (cheech line ) Describe your relationship with your BIGGIE/smalls: Francis and Vito genuinely feel like brothers to me. I’ve always wanted a brother, since I grew up with two older sisters, so my relationship with them is something I truly cherish. When we’re all together it’s awesome how we all understand the same humor, hold the same values, etc. We can hangout forever without it feeling like a drag, and we even text in our gc nearly every day which is crazy considering how unresponsive I am on my phone . As for my individual relationships with both, our friendship is some of the strongest bonds I have made to this point in my life. With either of them I can talk about everything, ranging from our visions of the future, individual struggles that we’ve been facing, to just dumb banter. blah blah blah the list goes on. I've got so much love for both of these guys and there's really no limit to what I feel like could trust these two with. It’s difficult to find friendship like this in general, so I feel extremely lucky to have two friends of this caliber, and am thankful that the BIGGIEsmalls program brought us together. What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?: I've learned a lot from growing with these guys over the past 4 years. I was the one trying to integrate them into the Filipino community back in the day and now we got a BKD president and D1 cochair, those mfers. Ig that was mostly just to brag about my smalls but here's some stuff I've learned from each: Francis knows what he values and invests all his time into those things. It’s something greater than just his work ethic, it’s about how he prioritizes things and doesnt leave room for random stuff that will end up wasting his time. Somehow, I’ve watched this kid work co-op and his ten one simultaneously, while handling his relationship, friendships and family, and somehow this guy still has enough time to indulge in his interests like reading way too much manga or being a cringe gamer at the end of the day. Maybe he sacrifices doing laundry and showering to find all that time (jk). With his new calendar this guy is actually unstoppable. This is definitely one quality of his that I admire and would love to improve at in my own life. Vito is very goal oriented and isn't scared to take steps to create the future he wants. Me and him are similar visionary types, but he has the confidence to take actions towards those futures, while I feel I lack that sometimes. For example, he saw barkada needed a president in an important time where integrating those who started online and those who had been around was a massive challenge, and he stepped up as a leader to build the community we have today. On a personal level he's always trying to better himself and do things that will help him reach his career goals, personal goals, etc. Seeing him strive to be his best encourages me to take action for what I want as well. What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?: A large fraction of my favorite college memories is with these two. When we first met, they'd come over every Thursday after barkada gms and we'd just play smash and hangout all night in my crusty 319 Huntington dorm. I remember I'd have them over until 3 or 4 am even though I was on co-op because I always felt like the memories we were making were way more valuable than the extra hours of sleep (and I was right). When we got sent home because of Covid our gc was the majority of my entertainment and outlet. We'd talk everyday about the most random stuff and I feel like that time would've been a lot more lonely if didn't have their friendship. After we got back that fall vito wasn't in boston but francis would come over all the time. I remember we were choreoing for barkada but all we'd do is play videogames or just talk instead, leading to him having to come over more and more lol. The day we finished the choreo i made him spam eggs and rice and it was the day of our workshop . Vito visited and he slept over my apartment, and we stayed up all night making dumb jokes and singing Olivia by one direction . When Vito moved back, I feel like we'd hangout and do random shit a lot too. We got really into buying mystery packs from Newbury Comics and it's still something we do every time we see them. There was also the one night the three of us bought boba twice instead of eating at gyu kaku because someone didn't make a reservation and that's a good story. Or the time we hid in Matt's trunk while picking Vito up from the airport that was fun. Anyways this is getting long, but basically every time I hang out with these guys it feels like I'm making memories that I'll tell my kids someday and that's the best feeing ever. Name: Francis Alvarez Major (+Minor): finance and economics Fam: Allegiance Describe your relationship with your BIGGIE/smalls: Ray and Vito are my best friends and I haven’t met another group of guys like them that I’m excited to talk to every day What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?: I learned that Ray will be bald by the age of 30 What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?: Our first performance together as a trio was Kamayan 2021 and it was cool because it had been so long since we were able to be together and perform for everyone. I’ll never forget the day and the after party was also very fun (shoutout 74 Symph)! Name: Vito Montesa Major (+Minor): Mechanical Engineering (Marketing Analytics) Fam: Allegiance Describe your relationship with your BIGGIE/smalls: Ray and Francis are my best friends, I love these guys so much it’s kinda cringe. They’re always the first people I go to for anything whether it’s advice or just for fun or if I want to play Fortnite . These guys are so much like brothers to me – When we’re together, it’s the both the dumbest and the best thing ever because we act so stupid but there’s no other people I’d rather act stupid with. crazy cause Ray recruited me to Barkada back when I was a freshman and now we’re roommates. And Francis was my best friend in our freshman class back in the day and we’re still super close and have done so much together What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?: From Francis, I learned to be more spontaneous and do more things that you normally wouldn’t because another chance might not come From Ray, I learned how to be more thoughtful about your goals and who you want to be From both of them, I learned to not kill the cringe in you, but kill the part the cringes What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?: My favorite memory with Francis and Ray is when we went to go get boba at Shin Mio near Fenway and the boba was so good that we got 2 more rounds. We’re crazy! Jasmin & Paulina - sexyBIGGIE: Jasmin Yu
smalls: Paulina Acosta Fam: Sexy Name: Jasmin Yu Major (+Minor): Interaction Design and Marketing Major with a Minor in Film Production Fam: Sexyyyy Describe your relationship with your BIGGIE/smalls: I’d definitely say we’re close :-) we see each other almost everyday and we like to do a lot together since we’re both always down to try new things all the time! If we’ve had a rough time or if there are just silly things to catch each other up on we’ll always manage to find the time to always fill in each other on the crazy ups and downs of life. I always go to her knowing that she’ll make my days better and she never fails to put a smile on my face What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?: How to stay calm within all the noise and hard times in life - she’s just always keeps me grounded and helps me focus on all the good things going on around me. What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?: This was so hard to answer because there have been a lot of sleepless nights with this silly girl,,, but one memory that definitely sticks out is when we planned to go to the Winter SoWa market together and spent hours walking around all the different vendors trying to think of last minute gifts for everyone Name: Paulina Acosta Major (+Minor): Computer Science and Design Fam: Sexy :P Describe your relationship with your BIGGIE/smalls: I look up to Jasmin so so much and see her as a role model and an older sister. She always checks in on me and makes sure I’m okay, and she always finds ways to make me feel better when I’m going through it. She surprises me with treats and I try to do the same for her and it always ends up with us arguing over telling the other how much it was so we can pay them back (but we never tell each other the price :))). I always go to her whenever I need advice because she’ll tell me what I need to hear. Also, she’s so much fun to be around and you can usually find the two of us at curry doing work and chatting with other people in paac. Jasmin is genuinely one of my favorite people to hang out with and to learn from, and I’m so happy that she’s my big <333 What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?: I’ve learned so much from Jasmin but one of the biggest things I learned is what it means to work hard, play hard. Jasmin is one of the busiest people I know and has so much on her plate, and she still wants to do more ??? But even though she has so many responsibilities you can always count on her to make time to have fun, hang out and go explore. Oh, and I also learned to kind of enjoy walking everywhere. Jasmin literally walks everywhere in Boston and the idea is slowly growing on me. What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?: There are so many memories I can think of but if I had to choose one I would probably pick the day we walked from campus to the ASU picnic in Boston Commons over the summer. The walk wasn’t the shortest so we had time to talk and catch up, and we even stopped by Levain for some cookies. The weather was so nice that day and I genuinely enjoyed the conversations me and Jasmin had and it really made me appreciate having her in my life. MB: my m&ms !!! i love them no matter how much i say the opposite in our gc ❤️ they keep me Humble ngl,, the amount of bullying targeted at me ,,, MG: Our relationship is founded on a liE! The semester I got picked up, I asked Marika if she'd applied and she straight up said no ?? and then I got picked up and guess who was my big.. But in all seriousness, my big is the most understanding person I've ever known and I feel like I can tell her aNything. Truly would've had a totally different college experience if I didn't know her. MS: the first time i held mia's cat i rapidly developed symptoms of a cold and i discovered that i am, in fact, allergic to cats. marika pulled out benadryl out of nowhere and i feel like that's a pretty good summary of what our relationship is like. on a similar note, i changed marika's name in my phone to momrika the day i got picked up and i think it's very fitting. her, mia, and i text constantly every day and marika somehow always has insightful advice to give whenever mia or i are struggling with something. she's always looking out for me and the rest of our (d)umb (c)haotic fam and i don't know what we'd do without her. >What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?< MB: mia loves and cares so deeply about others which has taught me to be more thoughtful & kind even if it's in little ways. mika's so understanding/a great listener and has helped me realize how important it is to prioritize myself + my mental health. MG: The BIGgest thing I've learned from my BIG is to not care about what anyone thinks. MS: marika once told me about how one year she made it her goal to be more assertive, despite that being an anxiety we both share, and that's stuck with me every time i'm struggling to speak up for myself. she always encourages me to do so and it's something i really admire about her. >What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?< MB: lying to them both before picking them up,, i love traditions :') fr favorite memory w the both of them was apple picking!! and then going back to mia's aDORABLE kitchen after to bake apple pies (cherry on top: mika is allergic to mia's cat). also just the countless times mia and i have gotten food and sat outside and just talked, or the chaotic nights mika and i have spent baking + had brunch the next day ♡ Too Many good mems to choose from. MG: Too many to choose from !! I love going to sox games with my big, bonding over new girl, and watching marvel movies. I also Loved going apple picking with my big and twin and then staying at my house for the weekend making pies and just hanging out. So excite to keep making more mems ♡ MS: there are so many memories with marika that are important to me! the time we made frog cookies and frog donuts together and started a grease fire, the time i essentially lived at her house for a weekend and we made m&m pancakes, boba (hand-rolled!) and cookies that kept melting all over our hands all in the same day, countless brunches, apple picking with her and mia,, too many to choose from. every time i'm with her she makes me feel comfortable being myself and that, above everything else, is what makes every memory with her so special ♡ BIGGIE: Mark Choa, 5th year, Business Major (w/Concentrations in Finance & Accounting) smalls: Asia Sanchez, 1st year, Business Administration Major Fam: Prestige >Describe your relationship with your BIGGIE/smalls!<
MC: I see our relationship as quasi mentor older brother type relationship. I met Asia when I was her TA in BUSN 1102 which is an class designed to help first semester freshman transition to Northeastern. I hope as her biggie I try to impart lessons learned both from a business and Barkada perspective. AS: bestie vibes. I can go to mark for any advice or support whenever I need. >What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?< MC: From Asia, I think I learned honestly just how much I still love being a part of Barkada. I wasn’t as active as I normal have been last semester but getting to experience all the special things Barkada does for the first time makes it feel like my first time too. AS: Big baller money moves 😎 >What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?< MC: Favorite memory is pretty tough getting to see her experience her first BK was pretty special but I think it has to be our Thursday lunches where I take her to different restaurant around Boston or we make something like poke. AS: Going out to eat every week and getting to learn so much about Boston while talking about any and everything <3 BIGGIE: Shawn Robin, 4th year, Computer Science Major smalls: Katrina Gonzales, 2nd year, Business Administration Major (w/Concentration in Marketing Analytics) Fam: Lineage >Describe your relationship with your BIGGIE/smalls!<
SR: katrina and i have such a great relationship and our biggiesmalls relationship is unparalleled. she’s one of my best friends and it is always such a great time with her. she’s absolutely hilarious and anytime with her always involves lots of laughing. we are also pretty similar in several ways but probably none bigger than our competitive spirit. our shared drive to always want to win and be the best is unmatched and i love that about her. whether its a game night, wandering on newbury, or just laughing at each other, i am consistently convinced i have the best smalls. KG: when i tell people me and shawn’s BIGGIEsmalls origin story, i always use the words “instant click.” sure, there may be moments when he makes one too many dad jokes and wears zip up vests with brown outdated loafers, but i truly wouldn’t wanna be anyone else’s smalls. i first met shawn online last year and did not give two poops about him, but when we grabbed bangkok pinto last spring during eboard shadowing, it was like we were already two peas in a pod! shawn fits my definition of a perfect BIGGIE - i can go to him when i want to laugh, vent, gossip 😅, send my outfit options, play games, and get personal + professional advice. he’s the first person i look for at party and the last person i’d go to if i wanna get pizza (his love for hawaiian pizza is a big no no). he’s become one of the most iconic people i’ve met in college, and i know that we’ll be lifelong friends. >What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?< SR: don’t use the laughing emoji. KG: there are a multitude of things i’ve learned from shawn (surprisingly). he’s taught me to truly get the most out of not only my time in college but also life. he really inspires me to just have fun, to surround myself with people who make me laugh, to travel, to work hard in school, to be more generous (i’m a bit stingy 😅) and to work hard and play hard. shawn has also given me a better mirror to look at myself through - his confidence in himself makes me more confident, even if he’s sometimes cringy. >What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?< SR: too many to choose just one but some highlights include reveal, going to rhode island, both BK days, and all the countless nights in 748 :) KG: my favorite memory with shawn is writing our portion of the 2021 BK script. we wrote a short skit for maglalatik, and i remember us spending so much time at curry just trying to pop out as many jokes as we could. i think that’s my favorite memory because i had the best kind of laugh where your stomach begins to hurt. it also reminds me of how similar shawn and i are and that we’re always on the same ~wavelength~ another favorite memory is just all of our 748 nights jumbled into one. it’s all pretty much a blur now, but they’re the best nights i’ve spent in college so far. EB: Angeline and Raph are like siblings to me! I love them so much and know I can talk to them about anything. From the first zoom meeting, I knew instantly that I wanted to pick up Angeline, the more I got to know her the more I wanted her to be my smalls. Raph became more and more obvious when he officially joined barkada. We started spending more time together and he started feeling more and more like a little brother to me. Angeline and I saw how much he completed the fam and we were so excited to welcome him into our family. They are the first people I text when things happen in my life. They are the best cheerleaders and support system and I know we’re here for each other no matter what. They are both such amazing dancers. I love watching and dancing with them (they make me want to try KPop). I am graduating soon but I know for a fact that we’ll be close forever. Unfortunately for them, they are stuck with me forever hehe. I cannot wait to see them grow and start their own lives and still be there for them every step of the way. AT: Esme is like the older sister I had always wanted. She is the embodiment of sunshine and has been the most loving and supportive figure in my life since coming to college. She loves me for who I am and celebrates everything I do in life. She pushes me to try new things, meet new people, and pursue my passions. She is constantly growing and learning new things and I think we complement each other in that way. She has been there to offer me emotional support and advice, and cares for me in a way I had always wanted. She has so much love in her heart and you can see it the way she smiles. I consider her family, and I want to make so many more memories with her. RA: Even though we are technically the same year Esme has been a mentor and guide helping me navigate the communities I wished I joined earlier in my college career. I was always interested in dance and being part of the Asian community on campus but I was too shy during my freshman and sophomore years. Now being a 4th year, I better understand who I am and what I want to do with my time in college leading me to finally join PAAC organizations. Last semester was the most enjoyable time I've had at Northeastern and Esme guiding me and supporting me as I find my footing in this beautiful community is a huge reason why. >What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?< EB: One thing I love the most about my smalls is that they make me a better person. They are both not afraid to keep me in check and call me out which I am so appreciative of. Angeline teaches me how to be kinder and a better sister. She always helps me consider other perspectives, be more patient, and understand others' needs. I have always admired how genuinely kind she is. She has so much love to offer and teaches me so much about life and others. Raph teaches me to be more outgoing and social. He is so great at meeting new people and making them feel comfortable. He brings me out of my comfort zone and pushes me to go out more. They both always encourage me to be more confident and to love myself. They encourage me to be my most genuine self without being embarrassed. I struggle a lot with self doubt but my smalls have always been some of the most supportive and loving people in my life. They teach me to see the best in life. AT: That I can have opinions. I also admire her resilience. RA: Esme has taught me so much about being part of PAAC, the dance community, and pursuing your passions. However, if I were to pick the greatest lesson I have learned from Esme it is how to foster and care for the communities and people you love. She communicates with her littles across all the clubs she is a part of every day trying to set up times to hang out or if they just need someone to listen to them. Esme reaches out to so many underclassmen welcoming them to the communities here at Northeastern and making sure they know they are supported. Esme deeply loves the communities that took care of her since she was a freshman and it has been inspiring to watch her care for the future of these communities. Barkada and Beast Farm is going to continue being great even after this graduating class leaves because of the kindness, effort, and love Esme has shown her past 4 years. I am incredibly thankful for such an amazing big and I am excited to see what she will do outside of college. >What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?< EB: I can’t pick one because every hang out with them is actually the best! I think one of my favorite memories with the both of them is when angeline and I went on Raph’s radio show. We listened to music and talked about life. We all have similar taste in music and we could talk for hours about anything. I always have the best conversations with them. Another one of my favorite is wine nights! It’s always super chill and I love it when Angeline makes us guess the wine notes and Raph and I just end up guessing random fruits. I was also super excited about Beast Farm Christmas and being able to finally give them their rings! Before Raph was in the fam, some of my favorite memories with Angeline was playing games at 748 and spending her birthday with Meryl. We went to the esplanade and had dim sum and strawberry shortcake. I also will always cherish choreographing with Angeline until like 5am. She was the best co-choreographer! One of my favorite memories with Raph is when we stayed up until 7am talking and ended up watching the sunset on Columbus garage and taking pictures. AT: It’s hard for me to choose one, but I remember the day she picked me up and my heart was filled with so much happiness and excitement for the future. Also, when she picked up Raph – he brought so much good energy to the fam and I feel like he really brought out the best in me and Esme. Another memory was just her and I sitting across from each other at her apartment and talking and eating (sorry that’s so vague, but it’s very clear in my head). Any moment I feel close to her is my favorite. RA:My favorite memories with Esme and Angeline are when we make dinner in 748. From making tocino to Meryl's famous salmon recipe, Beast Farm dinners were usually the highlight of my week. Esme and I will also usually guess wine flavor profiles while Angeline tells us if we were correct. Although we have only been together for a semester, Angeline and Esme have become my fam and I am so appreciative of the time we all get to be together. KM: Although Biggiesmalls is a mentorship program, it’s really important to me that we are just straight up friends above all else. I really value my friendship with smalls; they are like my little sisters that I can talk about anything with! I just try my best to be a supportive biggie, and they support me right back! CW: Initially after being paired, I felt very shy to reach out to Katie because I can be socially awkward sometimes. However, Katie was really understanding of how I felt! I would say Katie and I have pretty similar personalities (ex: being the listener of the group) so it’s easier to relate to each other. She’s very kind and we try to hang out whenever we’re not busy. IC: I think sometimes I joke and call kt ‘mother’ (at least in my head) but she’s more like a cool big sister/bestie of mine. I admire her so much and we have plenty in common so I’m really glad we got paired together! even though we’re pretty busy and don’t see each other super often I’m really comfortable reaching out to her for anything and vice versa. >What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?< KM: Something I’ve learned and am continuing to learn is how to stay connected when we are all busy with our own lives. It was really tough through COVID to keep in touch at times, especially since Chanelle lives away from campus (miss you girl!) and when Isabel and I were so busy on coop. But in the end it makes the times we do spend together all the more meaningful :) CW: Katie is an amazing person who encourages me in everything I do. She’s very caring, and I know I can reach out to her anytime. I’m glad to have been paired up with her! IC: self-love and lots of good books :) >What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?< KM: Fav memory with Chanelle is her finally finding all the clues during our reveal and running over to hug me! CW: Talking to Katie over quarantine in 2020 especially when we face timed!! That was the first time I got to know her a lot better one on one. IC: less of a memory and more of a season lol. last summer was amazing cause me and kt were roomies!! we would both have to get up at 6 everyday for co-op but we also made lots of time for all the lovely summer things like skating and taking trips and just laying outside or something. had a blast w each other and also w all our other friends together! Aalia is super cool and someone that I can relate to and talk to easily! But really though, any time I hang out with those two is a fun time, and will I get separation anxiety over the break? Yes <3 GC: when we went to grace's place last year to drink some good juice (learned a lot that night) + that one time when we just went to youtube and watched clips of danny phantom, teen titans, oohhh and young justice (wait maybe it was the same night... not sure) JG: Watching holiday movies and drinking hot chocolate!!
