BIGGIE: Abby Mungcal, 4th Year, Chemistry, Film Production Minor smalls #1: Neary Hok, 3rd Year, Biochemistry, Public Health Minor smalls #2: Taylor Hsu, 3rd Year, Business Administration + Psychology, Behavioral Neuroscience Minor Family: Destiny's Children >Describe your relationship with your BIGGIE/smalls!<
AM: Taylor and Neary both call me mom but I feel more like a very entertained Ate. They are very independent so I find myself cheering them on and being proud of their various accomplishments. We are all very busy people, we when we can finally spend time together, we rant about our lives and have food. Sometimes Neary will go off about science and Taylor will go off about business or they will both go off about activism. I see a lot of myself in my smolses so whenever I see them I just wanna give them lots of love and it makes me very happy to be around them (huh… maybe I am mom…) NH: I think that Abby and I have a very intuitive (no-real-description-but-it-makes-sense) relationship. I think she knew she wanted to pick me up immediately at that one boba social freshman year even though I hadn't really seen or spoken to her much afterwards - and that applies to our BIGGIEsmols relationship too. We don't really get to see each other that often (big DC energy) but like.. it works. Like somehow she knew I was a chem nerd before I knew it myself. And that's how it went when Taylor was picked up too: Abby had no idea who the hell she was, but I did and it worked :). TH: Oh wowow I love Abby a lot and I'm so glad that I have both her and Neary around! Abby can be ruDE, as shown from when she (along with Neary who didn’t stop her) put the clues for my biggiesmalls reveal in the highest places KNOWING how short I am AHEM, but she is one of the kindest and most loving people I know. Abby is always there for me and is probably one of my biggest supporters. I'm so thankful for her always being there to support and give me advice, but also be 100% upfront with me if I'm being dumb. I feel like I can always be myself around her and she's always able to understand me. Honestly I didn't know Abby at all before I got paired with her and it was thanks to Neary that it happened, but I couldn't imagine myself paired with anyone else after. Love you mother :)) >What's something you've learned from your BIGGIE/smalls?< AM: I have the most passionate and motivated smols in the world. When I feel jaded and tired about the world, Neary and Taylor are kicking butts. They work really hard, especially with the hurdles they have to jump through as international students, and have big goals for themselves. They are really thoughtful and their outlook on the world inspires me whenever I need to be reminded things will be okay. NH: Both taught me to embrace the Big Nerd Energy and it's ok to take a break TH: Honestly, Abby taught me the importance of being myself. She's always there to nurture my curiosity and encourage me to explore, but she's always there to explore with me! She's someone who really accepts me for who I am and has taught me to accept me for me. >What's your favorite memory with your BIGGIE/smalls?< AM: I didn't know Taylor or Neary very well when I first picked them up, so my favorite memories are when I first really got to know them. For Neary's birthday the first year I picked her up, we made food and I put a 0 candle on a cupcake and sang her happy birthday. I realized how much we had in common that I didn't know about before, like how we are both science nerds but alternate universe art kids. I first got to know Taylor while walking around campus (of course while drinking coffee) and we had a really long deep conversation where it hit me why Neary really wanted her to be my smols. (ohno I wrote a lot I just love my smolses so much) NH: 319-08 and that turquoise fuzzy blanket that Abby still has. And of course the night all three of us made dumplings and turon after I had a really bad day at work. TH: Aw jeez there are way too many :00 so you get a bunch oops not sorry. I think my favorite time is when we got coffee (of course) and just walked/vibed around campus. It was the first time I really got to know her and honestly it was so easy I felt like I'd known her for a verryy long time. Then another time she made Neary and I chili and cornbread. We just vibed and talked all night about a bunch of random things. The three of us always end up making food together and it is always such a fun time :'). OH or when we watched Scooby Doo and got very accidentally invested. I really cherish all the memories I have with Abby because she is such an important person to me and I can't wait to make more.
